Job Summary
Virginia ABC’s Financial Management Services Division (FMS) is seeking a Sales Audit Lead Analyst to join ABC’s Accounting Team. This position supports the Sales Audit Manager and Assistant Manager by supervising the Sales Audit staff and provides analytical assistance for sales, inventory, and credit cards. The incumbent is also responsible for analyzing the data processing from the ABC stores, POS systems, and MIPS systems to the FMS sales systems; analyzing the FMS General Ledger and CARDINAL data to ensure system and data integrity, while improving procedures and processes, preparing journal entries, and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
FMS’ objective is to support ABC's Mission through successful fulfillment of responsibilities in financial management, financial reporting, compliance assurance, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable (sales audit), budget development, budget reporting, malt beverage & wine tax collection, auditing of tax payments to ABC, and serving as the liaison with the Auditor of Public Accounts. In addition, the Division is responsible for maintaining high customer service standards to both internal and external customers.
Areas of Responsibility
- Provide analytical support for the reconciliation of sales data against tender collected, as well as provide support for financial information interfaced to the Authority’s general ledger which is used as the basis for the Authority’s profit transfers to the general fund.
- Provide analytical support for ABC cash deposit data to validate financial information interfaced to the Commonwealth of Virginia’s financial accounting system (CARDINAL) as the basis for recording the ABC revenues and taxes collected
- Provides analytical support for ABC inventory data performing calculations to reconcile sales as reported through the Point-of-Sale system (POS) to sales transactions that should have been reported based on inventory levels (within the inventory system).
- Provides analytical support for ABC credit card data to always maintain a correct accounts receivable balance in the general ledger.
- Serve as backup to Sales Audit Manager/Asst. Manager in day-to-day operations and month end closing functions.
Minimum Qualifications
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of the operation of general ledger accounts and transaction codes.
- Knowledge of point-of-sale cash register operations.
- Working knowledge of, or the ability to learn the impact ABC’s significant revenue cycles have on upstream and downstream business and accounting processes.
- Knowledge of the operation of standard retail procedures as applied to sales and revenue accountability.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Working knowledge of product distribution, inventory controls, and financial systems.
- Experience with software implementations, software enhancements, system interfaces, and other software products required to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

- Ability to analyze financial data and effectively communicate results.

Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from a college or university with a concentration in accounting, business administration, or equivalent work experience w/ experience with databases and a financial system general ledger module.
- Knowledge of CARS/CARDINAL, of the Commonwealth Account Policies and Procedures Manual (CAPP), and departmental standards to ensure compliance.
- Previous experience in a standard retail sales audit function.
- Working knowledge (or the ability to gain a working knowledge) of ABC accounting procedures and should understand how those procedures interact with statewide accounting procedures, policies, and practice.
