Job summary

Rescue Mission of Roanoke Inc. is seeking part-time Sales Associates to support our thrift stores. You will help customers, stock floors, process donations, and operate the checkout while maintaining a clean, safe environment.

Training will be provided; flexible scheduling between 8:30am and 6:30pm, Monday through Saturday, with Sundays closed. Multiple store locations in Roanoke, VA require availability at both sites.

Qualifications

• Basic computer and math skills for sales and inventory tasks.
• Willingness to follow mission standards and procedures.
• Experience with cash handling and point-of-sale basics helpful.

• Good organizational skills for multi-tasking daily tasks.

Responsibilities

• Stock items on the sales floor from storage.
• Process donations and steam clothing as needed.
• Handle checkout processes using cash register and basic math.
• Assist customers throughout the store and answer questions.
• Answer phone calls and transfer messages as requested.
• Perform basic housekeeping for a clean, safe environment.
• Participate in other duties as assigned by leadership.

Sales Associates

Sales Associates serve our thrift stores by assisting customers with their overall shopping experience. Includes providing a clean, safe environment for them to shop; displaying merchandise so it is easy to find; supporting the checkout process and answer customer questions in person/by phone. In-store training will be provided.

Hours of Availability

Part-Time with Flexible schedule between 8:30am – 6:30pm;
Monday – Saturday; Closed on Sundays

Must be willing to work at either store as scheduled.

Compensation

Compensation: $15.00/hour (non‑exempt/hourly)

Duties include but are not limited to

1. Stock items on the sales floor from the storage room


2. Process donations as needed, steam clothing


3. Checkout processes to include use of cash register, computer, and basic math skills


4. Assist customers throughout the store; answer questions, explain processes


5. Answer phone calls to assist customers; transfer and/or take a message as requested.


6. Basic housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment.


7. All Rescue Mission of Roanoke team members may be asked to complete other duties as assigned by the leadership/management. Expectation is to complete these assignments as requested.

Physical demands essential to performing the job duties of this position (not an all-inclusive list)

• Prolonged periods of physical activity (80%) sitting and/or standing


• Prolonged periods of standing, stooping, turning, twisting, pushing, pulling objects up to 30 pounds


• Frequent computer use; computer screen exposure


• Lift up to 50 pounds; not typically repetitive


• Temperatures may vary depending on activity/events; indoor/outdoor exposure


• Noise levels may vary depending on activity/event and/or location


• Consistently - Communicating with others to exchange information; verbally and/or electronically
