The Rescue Mission of Roanoke is seeking energetic Shelter Team Associates to support guests and manage shelter operations in Roanoke. The role emphasizes compassionate service, safety, and teamwork while coordinating chapel services and meals.

Hours include afternoon, evening, and night shifts with a commitment to holiday and weekend coverage. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Gmail) and a strong sense of mission are essential for success.

The Emergency Shelter Team serve to minister to individuals in crisis who seek emergency shelter at the Rescue Mission. The Shelter Team is committed to embodying compassion and understanding while helping hurting people in Jesus name. They serve individuals who seek emergency shelter by providing intentional services related to a safe, secure and comfortable nights rest. These services include chapel services, overnight laundry, the opportunity to take a shower and shelter while sleeping.

Reports to: Shelter Manager

Hours of Availability: The Shelter provides services to guests between the hours of 3pm – 9am every day of the year including holidays and weekends.

Typical schedules are as follows:

• 2:30pm – 11:30pm
• 11:00pm – 8:00am

Hours outside of the typical schedule may be required due to the need for Day Shelter, Trainings, Meetings.

Compensation:

$19.00/hour

Career Summary (may include other duties as assigned)

Shelter Team Associates provide guidance and support to the shelter guests to ensure processes are followed for safe and secure environment for everyone.

They monitor as extra support during chapel services and meals.

They make rounds of the facility and grounds including room checks and promoting a healthy environment for guests, volunteers and team members.

Administrative duties include accurate data input of records/documents, inspections, incident reports, medication distribution, phone calls, supply maintenance.

Our goal is to meet unmet needs while providing a safe and secure environment by building healthy relationships with our guests and our team. Assist volunteers and/or interns to include training.

All Rescue Mission of Roanoke team members may be asked to complete other duties as assigned by the leadership/management. The expectation is to complete these assignments as requested.
