Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington is seeking a store associate to deliver friendly, attentive service while processing sales and supporting operations. You will ring up purchases, assist shoppers with finding items, and help maintain a clean, organized sales floor.

The role emphasizes strong interpersonal skills, basic math, and reliability in a fast-paced retail environment. Training and benefits are provided, including opportunities for growth within GGW.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous service to customers in-store, outside, and on the phone.

• Handle cash and card transactions accurately with calculator use as needed.
• Keep floors neat and assist customers with selections.
• Maintain a clean, professional appearance and store area.
• Support general housekeeping and store upkeep tasks as directed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift)
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of six months of previous work experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working in a retail environment
• Excellent customer service related skills
• Working knowledge of a cash register
• Multilingual with complete fluency in English
