Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington in Gaithersburg seeks a retail sales associate to be the face of our stores. You will deliver friendly service, stock items, ring up sales, and keep departments neat and organized.

You will handle cash with accuracy, answer questions, and contribute to a positive shopping experience while supporting our mission.

Qualifications

• Ability to effectively communicate with customers and GGW associates.
• Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
• Ability to settle customer complaints.
• Basic math skills for cash handling and transactions.
• Stand for prolonged periods (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift).
• Bend and lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications and the internet.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional and courteous service to customers inside the store, outside, and on the phone.
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner.
• Rings items accurately on the register.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• 2. Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• 3. Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• 4. Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• 5. Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• 6. Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• 7. Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• 1. Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• 3. Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• 4. Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• 5. Perform other duties as assigned by management

• 6. Multilingual with complete fluency in English
