Job summary

Goodwill of Greater Washington seeks a retail sales associate to greet customers, answer questions, and help with product selection in our Manassas store. You will operate the register, ring up purchases, and maintain a clean, inviting sales floor to ensure a positive shopping experience.

Responsibilities include handling cash and card transactions securely, assisting customers, and supporting store upkeep. A friendly, reliable team player with basic computer skills will thrive in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers.
• Ability to settle customer complaints.
• Basic math skills.
• Ability to stand up to 7 hours per shift.
• Ability to bend and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Basic working knowledge of computer applications.

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside and outside the store, and on the phone.
• Rings up items accurately on the register.
• Maintains clean, organized floor and assists customers with selections.
• Handles cash and card transactions with accuracy and integrity.
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer questions promptly.
• Performs housekeeping duties and supports store upkeep.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides professional and courteous service to all customers inside the store, outside of the store, and on the phone.
• Assures merchandise is placed on the sales floor in a timely manner
• Able to ensure items are rung accurately on the register
• Demonstrates accurate cash handling skill to include but is not limited to making change, operate and maintain the cash register, check and charge card machine, and use of a calculator
• Maintains knowledge of merchandise and answers customer’s questions courteously and promptly
• Keeps floor merchandise neat and orderly (racks, shelves, bins, and hangers) and assists customers with purchase selections.
• Maintains clean professional appearance

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain an orderly and clean register area
• Maintain familiarity with store security procedures and exercise security practices when necessary
• Perform general housekeeping responsibilities to include: store upkeep duties as needed to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping shelves, and dusting (including restrooms and dressing rooms)
• Perform other duties as assigned by management

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of six months of previous work experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working in a retail environment
• Excellent customer service related skills
• Working knowledge of a cash register
• Multilingual with complete fluency in English
