Job summary

Valencia College’s West Campus Campus Store is seeking a Full Time Sales Associate to help students select textbooks, process payments, and maintain accurate sales records. You will assist with inventory control, signage, and opening/closing duties, with occasional travel between campuses.

This onsite role requires a high school diploma or GED, cash-handling experience, and strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operates POS registers and processes payments, returns, and exchanges.
  • Processes passport applications and may perform notary certifications.
  • Assists customers with purchasing books, software, hardware, and supplies.
  • Greets and assists customers with inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Maintains cashier integrity with proper money-handling procedures.
  • Conducts regular inventory counts and coordinates online orders for pickup or shipment.
  • Supports events and promotions to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Maintains a clean, organized sales floor and displays.
  • Trains new associates and serves as SME.
  • Loads/unloads smart lockers and resolves customer issues promptly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Valencia College is seeking a Full Time Sale Associate to join our dedicated Campus Store team at West Campus. The Campus Store is your one-stop shop for all instructional materials, supplies, and spirit gear. We provide services to students, faculty, and staff with a wide range of products and services. Our Campus stores also offer textbook buyback programs, notary services, and passport application assistance.

As a Sales Associate, you will assist students with selecting the appropriate textbooks for their courses, process cash and check payments, record sales using a cash register, and maintain accurate records related to store operations. You will also support inventory control efforts and assist with setting up merchandise displays and signage. Sales Associates assist with opening and closing the store as needed. Due to the collaborative nature of the department, occasional travel between campuses may be required to support other Campus Store locations.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or higher

General Position Description

Essential Job Functions

1. Operates POS registers and processes payment, returns, and exchanges in accordance with standard operating procedures. Balances the cash drawer and performs cashier audits.

2. Processes passport applications in accordance with government guidelines. Completes required training to remain informed about product features, promotions, passport application procedures. May perform notary certifications, ensuring all legal requirements are met.

3. Performs customer service activities such as retrieving and activating student financial aid information and assisting customers in the purchase of books, computer software and hardware, calculators and/or supplies.

4. Greets and assists customers with product and service inquiries while maintaining a professional appearance and a positive, helpful demeanor.

5. Maintains cashier integrity by observing safe money-handling procedures and secure transaction practices when accepting cash payments, making change, accepting checks and credit card payments, and processing refunds.

6. Conducts regular inventory counts and full inventory audits to ensure accuracy and maintain appropriate stock levels. Monitors and coordinates online orders and fulfillment by: a. processing online orders; b. pulling merchandise; c. preparing orders for pick-up or shipment; d. communicating order status to customers.

7. Adheres to all loss prevention and security procedures to protect store assets.

8. Participates in special events, promotions and marketing initiatives (e.g., off-site events, graduation). Recommends products based on customer needs. Promotes and cross-sells products and services to maximize sales opportunities.

9. Maintains a clean and organized sales floor by restocking shelves and merchandise displays and actively participating in cleaning tasks. Ensures a visually appealing product presentation.

10. Completes all assigned training. Assists in training new associates and serves as subject matter expert.

11. Loads and unloads smart lockers in accordance with standard operating procedures.

12. Resolves general customer complaints or issues promptly and effectively in a professional and courteous manner.

13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

General Working Conditions

This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects at close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus.
