Position Overview
The Sales Application Engineer serves as the primary technical interface between the North American Sales and Order Processing teams and the Engineering team in Europe.
This position combines technical customer support, application engineering, product configuration, and technical coordination. The Sales Application Engineer will analyze customer requirements, review technical drawings and specifications, help identify appropriate product solutions, and ensure accurate communication between Sales, Engineering, Order Processing, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Sales Support & Application Engineering
- Act as the primary technical interface between the Sales team and the Engineering/Technical team in Europe.
- Analyze customer requirements and technical specifications to identify appropriate product solutions.
- Conduct technical studies to support customer applications and sales activities.
- Review customer drawings, layouts, technical specifications, and other relevant documentation.
- Coordinate with Engineering to obtain technical evaluations, solutions, and clarifications.
- Provide technical support during the preparation of quotations and commercial proposals.
- Assist the Sales team in addressing customer technical questions and application requirements.
- Follow up on technical requests to ensure timely responses to Sales and customers.
Order Processing & Technical Coordination
- Serve as the technical interface between Sales, Order Processing, and Engineering throughout the order process.
- Review product configurations to ensure technical accuracy and alignment with customer requirements.
- Ensure products are correctly configured and coded with all required technical information for order entry and processing.
- Assist the Order Processing team in resolving technical issues or obtaining missing information.
- Coordinate product configurations, modifications, and technical specifications with Engineering.
- Ensure technical changes and customer requirements are communicated accurately to the appropriate internal teams.
- Support the resolution of technical issues that arise during order fulfillment.
Customer & Technical Documentation
- Review and interpret customer technical documentation and requirements.
- Ensure relevant technical information is complete, accurate, and accessible to teams involved in the sales and order process.
- Coordinate the collection of missing technical information from customers or internal stakeholders.
- Track open technical requests and follow up with the appropriate teams through resolution.
Multi-Product Technical Support
- Provide technical support across the company's various industrial product lines.
- Assist Sales with product configurations, technical evaluations, and customer requirements.
- Coordinate with technical and commercial teams to support quotations and customer applications.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Process Improvement
- Collaborate with Sales, Order Processing, Engineering, and other departments to efficiently manage customer requirements.
- Facilitate communication between the North American operation and European Engineering teams.
- Identify recurring technical or process-related issues and contribute to more efficient solutions.
- Support continuous improvement of technical sales and order coordination processes.
- Participate in additional technical or commercial projects as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- Equivalent technical education combined with relevant professional experience may also be considered.
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, application engineering, technical sales support, or a related role.
- Industrial machinery or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience working with technical drawings and customer-specific applications is a plus.
- Experience working within a multinational or international organization is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Ability to understand customer technical requirements and translate them into appropriate product configurations.
- Experience conducting technical studies and supporting application engineering activities.
- Ability to support technical quotations and proposals.
- Familiarity with CRM and ERP systems; Salesforce and Sage 100 experience is preferred.
