Position: Sales Representative
Location: Birmingham
Reports to: Branch Manager
SWY is looking to add an experienced full‑time Sales Representative to our growing Branch. SWY is offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including health benefits, paid vacation, a per diem, and the opportunity to work plenty of hours of overtime.
Summary
The Sales Representative will be assigned to a specific sales territory, maintain current customer accounts, develop new accounts, and represent SWY Crane & Rigging and its family of companies for the purpose of obtaining orders for our Commercial Construction Crane and Rigging services, developing and penetrating new clients to establish long‑term relationships.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- College or technical school degree preferred, and/or relevant years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- 3‑7 years of commercial construction sales preferred.
- 3‑7 years of crane operations and proper rigging techniques preferred.
- Determine appropriate crane for a task, prepare quotes, and coordinate with the dispatch office.
- Perform all responsibilities in a safe, legal, professional, and ethical manner.
- Experience in sales with a track record of performance.
- Experience in operated crane industry.
- Experience in marketing strategies and analyzing trends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Overnight travel required.
Responsibilities
- Attains assigned territory sales objectives through territory management, planning, and development.
- Establish a client base that will support a $2+MM/year revenue stream.
- Performs personal sales solicitation and telephone sales solicitation in the assigned territory.
- Prepares quotes and coordinates with the Dispatch office.
- Read, interpret, and determine that an assigned crane can perform the lift by utilizing the manufacturer's load charts.
- Verbally communicate safety issues to customers and internal workers.
- Administrative reporting.
- Comply with all applicable safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present quotes and close sales.
- Meet deadlines.
- Prioritize workload and work without direct supervision.
- Handle rejection.
- Customers will be assigned on an exclusive account management basis; responsible for establishing account strategies and maintaining relationships for your customer base.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Working Conditions
- Non‑smoking environment at times.
- May be exposed to outside weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, ice).
- May be assigned irregular working hours and standby hours.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fumes/odors, dust, chemical or toxic waste hazards.
- Require use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in required areas.
- May require out‑of‑town overnight stays in hotels when the job task requires it.

- Punctual and available for job duties.
- Good "Customer Relations" skills and ability to communicate with external and internal customers.
- Cooperate with others in a team environment for training and conferences on operational issues.
- Submit reports and paperwork associated with the position on a regular and timely basis.
- Maintain insurable driving record for use of company vehicles and any other licenses required to successfully complete job walks.
