Job summary

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc is seeking a Safety Specialist to oversee safety programs across field operations, dedicating about 85% of time in the field.

The role focuses on promoting safe work practices, addressing hazards, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and company policies for workers, subcontractors, and the traveling public in Georgia. Key duties include implementing safety programs, conducting audits, delivering training on fall protection and road construction hazards, and

Qualifications

• Must have on-the-job experience in safety training.
• High school diploma (minimum) with a strong preference for an advanced degree in Safety/Construction.
• Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations and recordkeeping, have demonstrated injury management skills, and have the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels, from hourly employees to management.
• The ability to work weekends and nights.

Responsibilities

• Implement and supervise company safety program and ensure compliance with OSHA job site safety requirements.
• Perform jobsite safety audits and report findings to safety leadership.
• Provide training and be competent in: Fall Protection, Excavations, Confined Spaces, Traffic Control, and all associated Road Construction Hazards.
• Conduct post incident/accident investigations and identifying possible causes and solutions.
• Coordinate initial medical care for injured employees and accompany them to medical care facility.

Job description

This position will providesafety support and oversight across all company operationsand will be expected to spend approximately 85% of the time in the field. The individual will work closely with field supervision and employees to promote safe work practices, identify and address potential hazards, and support compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulations. This role will be responsible for a wide range of safety-related duties focused on protectingC.W. Matthews employees, subcontractors, and the traveling publicthroughout our operations across the State of Georgia.

Below are the duties that are priorities to the individual selected for the position:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• General understanding of road construction including bridge, grading, asphalt construction, asphalt plant operations would be preferred.

Required Work Experience

• 3 years or more safety experience in road and highway construction.
