Qualifications

Job Title: Safety (SSHO)/ Superintendent / Quality Control – Federal Projects

Location: Chicago, IL

Salary: Up to $150K + Benefits

We are working with a well-established Chicago-based construction firm seeking an experienced Superintendent / Quality Control / Safety professional to support the delivery of federal construction projects throughout the Chicago region.

This is a hands-on, field-focused role covering site supervision, quality control, and safety management. Candidates do not need experience across all three areas — strong experience in any two of the three will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day site operations across federal construction projects
• Manage subcontractors, manpower, schedules, logistics, and site coordination
• Coordinate with Project Managers, government representatives, engineers, and trade partners
• Monitor project progress and resolve field issues quickly
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to specification

Quality Control

• Manage project quality control requirements and inspections
• Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and scopes of work
• Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality control meetings and inspections
• Maintain QC documentation, reports, deficiencies, and corrective actions
• Ensure work complies with contract documents and federal quality standards

Safety / SSHO

• Act as the Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) where required
• Lead site safety meetings, inspections, and daily safety compliance
• Enforce OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and project-specific safety requirements
• Identify hazards and implement corrective measures
• Coordinate subcontractor safety activities and documentation
• Maintain a strong safety culture across the project site

Requirements

• 5+ years of commercial or federal construction experience
• Strong experience in at least two of the following: Superintendent, Quality Control, or Safety / SSHO
• Federal/government project experience strongly preferred
• Knowledge of EM 385-1-1, OSHA requirements, federal QC procedures, and project documentation
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, field operations, and subcontractor management
• Relevant certifications such as CQM-C, OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or SSHO qualifications are highly desirable
