The Opportunity

The Field Safety Specialist provides expert technical guidance, implements risk mitigation strategies, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure workplace safety and effective work execution. This role requires a proven leader who can influence and motivate staff, management, and contractors to prioritize safety performance.

Our US Safety team seeks an #EnergyProblemSolver to support operations in Hamilton, MI, or Defiance, OH. The ideal candidate will support routine operations, special projects, and construction activities across their region.

We are looking for a professional with substantial experience in occupational safety, process safety, pipeline transmission operations, and construction/project execution. The successful candidate will be a skilled facilitator who thrives with autonomous work, demonstrates strategic decision-making, excels at problem-solving, and has outstanding organizational and communication skills.

What You’ll Do

• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring on safety processes and issues.
• Conduct safety training for employees in safe work practices and emergency procedures.
• Support regional site/area managers with occupational health and safety guidance.
• Oversee fire protection systems, regulatory permits, staff certifications, record keeping, inspections, tests, and preventative maintenance.
• Manage employee medical surveillance, respirator fit testing, noise surveys, PPE, hazardous material management, waste management, and safety equipment maintenance.
• Lead incident and accident investigations, proposing practical solutions.
• Share best practices with multi-functional teams.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve safety issues.
• Support safety programs aligned with enterprise goals.
• Conduct and monitor safety training within the area.
• Lead safety reviews with facility leadership.
• Manage hazardous material issues on-site.
• Interact with external visitors during inspections.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain related records.
• Work with teams to address safety deficiencies.
• Support risk assessment and mitigation during work planning.
• Develop and maintain safety policies and programs.
• Implement and monitor safety initiatives.
• Perform compliance inspections and maintain safety records.
• Participate in other safety-related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• 8+ years of related experience.
• Certification or degree in Health, Safety, and Environment or relevant experience.
• Technical knowledge in confined space, electrical safety, LOTO, hot work, elevated work, process safety, vehicle safety.
• Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines.
• Proactive in safety expectations and risk management.
• Experience with safety programs and regulations such as OSHA, FERC, PHMSA, CSB, EPA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Safety certification (CSP or equivalent).
• Advanced computer skills and experience with safety software like Enablon, Blueworx, SAP.

Additional Requirements

• Successful completion of pre-employment medical, drug, and background checks.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 60%, including overnight stays.
• Ability to climb ladders, wear respirators, and work in extreme temperatures.
