Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to support various projects in the New York, NY area. The Safety Specialist will assist Construction Management Teams working on public transit and commuter rail systems within the NYC Metropolitan area.

Responsibilities:
  1. Perform moderately complex technical work across environmental, safety, and health disciplines to ensure compliance with ES&H standards and federal and state regulations.
  2. Maintain current knowledge of specific government agency requirements.
  3. Apply fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of environmental safety and health.
  4. Develop and implement safety and health programs, systems, and procedures; monitor hazards and prevent workplace diseases.
  5. Investigate accidents, injuries, and hazards; recommend process and design improvements.
  6. Conduct employee training and emergency preparedness programs; ensure program quality.
  7. Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
  8. Potentially lead a team of ES&H specialists or support personnel and manage ES&H programs on small to medium projects.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to project requirements.
  • Experience in transit and transportation sectors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 5 years of NYC MTA transit experience.
  • Proficiency with corporate safety rules and programs.
  • Experience reviewing safe-work plans and conducting toolbox meetings.
