Safety Specialist - Ghent, KY OR Bradenburg, KY
Compensation:
- $72,000 - $92,000 (based on experience)
- 10-12% bonus (eligibility based on company performance)
- Annual merit increase based on personal and company performance
- Company vehicle provided with gas card, repairs, and maintenance covered (personal use allowed with mileage tracking for tax purposes)
We are a unique, 100-year-old family-owned company that transforms recycled products into construction materials, lightweight aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, agricultural products, and more. We provide steel mill services, flame cutting and treatment, road building, logistics, laboratory testing, and a variety of other solutions for our customers.
Office Location(s) for You:
- Greenfield site with 70 people (80 when fully staffed), newer operation under new leadership
Ghent, KY Site:
- Facility has been there for 20 years, 100 people (110 when fully staffed)
- 100% onsite, 24/7 operations at steel mills
- Position hours: 8-5 Monday-Friday (flexibility for operational needs)
The team is lean, the Safety Manager oversees 16 domestic sites with 2 Sr. Safety Specialists and another Specialist
Job Summary: The Safety Specialist will analyze safety trends, guide safety programs, assist with investigations, and ensure consistent safety standards. They will coordinate safety efforts within the business group and collaborate with various departments to maintain compliance and promote a culture of safety.
- Champion the Division Safety Plan
- Support site-specific safety personnel
- Develop, review, and revise safety procedures, programs, and policies
- Participate in Job Safety Analyses and Risk Assessments
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and assessments
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local safety regulations
- Provide guidance on PPE selection
- Assist in investigating safety-related incidents
- Support injury case management and OSHA recordkeeping
- Write thorough reports for incident investigation, audits, site visits, and assessments
- Track, gather, and analyze safety data
- Develop and deliver safety training
- Attend operational meetings and collaborate on safety initiatives
- Provide guidance on Compliance Calendar Adherence and employee training record reviews
- Assist in the development and execution of safety initiatives
- Investigate and develop processes to track the effectiveness of safety programs
- Collaborate with the Safety Team on special projects and initiatives
- Assist in aligning site safety cultures with company standards
- Maintain confidential/data information
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Safety-related experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of Federal and State OSHA standards
- Advanced computer skills for Windows and Microsoft applications
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interface with various levels of management, employees, and customers
- Good driving record
- Ability to travel up to 60% ground and air
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, strong self-starter
- Experience with multi-site operations desired
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting, standing, walking for extended periods
- Wearing assigned PPE (Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, FR Clothing, Safety Boots, Gloves, Hearing Protection)
- Lifting up to 30 pounds

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in safety management or EH&S (or actively working toward completion)
- Professional Certification preferred but not required (GSP, ASP, CSP, CIH)
