Job summary

HauglandGroup seeks an experienced safety professional to join its Environmental Health and Safety team in the USVI (St. Thomas and St. Croix).

The role supports construction project management, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives continuous EHS improvements on job sites. Responsibilities include conducting safety inspections, developing site-specific plans, investigating incidents, and maintaining compliance records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, construction management or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical utility construction safety experience desirable.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, MSHA and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety support to project management teams.
• Implement site-specific Health and Safety Plans and Tailboards.
• Investigate near-misses and incidents and drive corrective actions.
• Maintain EHS compliance records and conduct inspections.

KeyFunctions:

• Ensurecompliancewithapplicablefederal,local,andcorporateenvironmental,health,andsafetyregulationswhilepromotingaproactive safetyculture.
• Providesafetysupporttotheprojectteam.
• DrivecontinuousimprovementandinnovationinEHSperformanceandoperationalpractices.
• Conductfrequentsafetyandenvironmentalinspections/auditsoffacilities,yards,andjobsites.
• Completeweeklysafetymeetings(toolboxtalks)withemployeesandsubcontractors.
• Assistinthedevelopmentofsite-specificHealthandSafetyPlans,SafeWorkPlans,JobHazardAnalysesandTailboards.
• Investigateallnearmisses,injuries,accidents,propertydamage,andenvironmentalincidents,andensurecorrectiveactionsareimplemented.
• Ensurecompliancewithallapplicable,Federal,State,Local,OSHA,MSHA,andenvironmentalregulations.
• Interactwithprojectmanagers,supervisorsandworkerstoidentifyandcorrectunsafeconditionsorworkpractices.
• Identifysafety,environmental,andoperationalrisksandrecommendappropriatecorrectiveactions.
• Observetasksastheyarebeingcompletedtoprovidesupportandensuresafepractices.
• MaintainEHScompliancerecords,inspections,audits,andregulatorydocumentation.
• ConductmonthlyenvironmentalinspectionsandauditssoffacilitiesandjobsitesinSt.ThomasandSt.Croix,includingride-alongswithdriversandfieldemployees.
• Identifychemicals,safetyrisks,andenvironmentalhazardsatHMsites,andimplementmeasurestoreducehazardouschemicaluseandmitigate-relatedrisks.

DesiredQualifications:

• Mustbeabletotravel.Over50%oftravelisrequiredforthisrole.
• 3+yearsofexperiencewithelectricalutilityconstruction(undergroundandoverheadtransmission,telecom,etc.)safetyandworkpractices.
• Bachelor’sdegreeinsafety,ConstructionManagementorarelatedfieldpreferred.
• WorkingknowledgeofOSHA,MSHA,andenvironmentalcomplianceregulations.
• Experienceinhumanperformanceanderrorreduction.
• Experienceconductingcomplianceaudits,inspections,incidentinvestigations,andcorrectiveactionmanagement.
• Maintaincertification,accreditation,andcomplianceprograms,includingOSHA10TD,OSHA30,OSHA500/MSHA,andVoluntaryProtectionPrograms,asapplicable.
• ProficientintheuseofMicrosoftOfficeSuiteandstandardcomputerapplications.
• Displayahighlevelofinitiative,effort,andcommitmenttowardscompletingassignmentsinatimelymanner.Abletofollowverbalandwritteninstructionswithlittlesupervision.
• Abilitytoidentifyproblems;determineaccuracyandrelevanceofinformation;usesoundjudgmenttogenerateandevaluatealternativesandmakerecommendations.
• Effectivecommunicationskills,interpersonalandorganizationalskills,andastrongworkethic.
• Mustbeabletopassabackgroundcheckandpossessavaliddriver’slicense.
