Job summary

STV, Inc. seeks an on-site Safety Manager to lead safety for large-scale data center construction projects in Wisconsin. You will champion safety planning, compliance, investigations, and training across mobilization, active construction, commissioning, and turnover.

You will build a proactive safety culture, enforce OSHA standards, and mentor teams while tracking metrics and delivering continuous improvements. Strong communication and leadership are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related field.
  • 8+ years of construction safety experience on large projects (data centers preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices.
  • Experience with incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ability to influence safety culture across multiple teams.

Job description

This position will support the delivery of large-scale, complex construction projects for data centers and serve as the on-site safety leader responsible for promoting a culture of safety excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The safety manager acts as a trusted advisor to project leadership, contractors, subcontractors, and client stakeholders, ensuring implementation and enforcement of project-specific environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs. This individual will lead safety planning, compliance monitoring, incident prevention, investigations, training, and risk mitigation efforts across all phases of construction.

Responsibilities
Safety Leadership & Program Management
  • Serve as the project's primary safety professional and technical advisor to project management, field leadership, contractors, and client representatives.
  • Administer and enforce STV's health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific safety plans, procedures, and programs that support project objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture that emphasizes accountability, hazard recognition, risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide safety leadership during all construction phases, including mobilization, active construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, local safety requirements, client standards, and project-specific safety protocols.
  • Conduct routine site audits, inspections, and compliance reviews to identify hazards and verify corrective actions.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), permits, and safe work procedures.
Monitor high-risk construction activities, including:
  • Fall protection
  • Excavation and trenching
  • Confined space entry
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Crane and rigging operations
  • Steel erection
  • Energized electrical work
  • Scaffolding
  • Heavy equipment operations
  • Ensure implementation of appropriate controls to mitigate risks associated with mission-critical construction activities.
Incident Prevention & Investigation
  • Lead investigations of injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage events, and environmental occurrences.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Track, document, and report safety metrics, trends, observations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, incident records, site safety documentation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support project leadership in evaluating lessons learned and implementing safety improvements.
Training & Workforce Development
  • Conduct safety orientation programs for employees, contractors, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Deliver training programs covering regulatory requirements, project-specific hazards, emergency response procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, leadership discussions, and safety awareness campaigns.
  • Mentor supervisors and craft personnel to strengthen hazard recognition and safety leadership capabilities.
  • Promote employee engagement and participation in project safety initiatives.
Contractor & Subcontractor Safety Oversight
  • Act as the primary liaison for contractor and subcontractor safety representatives.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Attend and audit toolbox talks, pre-task planning meetings, and safety coordination meetings.
  • Verify implementation of corrective actions and closure of identified deficiencies.
  • Support contractor onboarding and safety prequalification efforts.
Emergency Preparedness & Environmental Compliance
  • Coordinate emergency response planning, drills, and first aid programs.
  • Assist with medical response activities and emergency incident management when required.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental protection requirements, pollution prevention measures, and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Oversee Hazard Communication programs, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and related documentation.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Maintain safety records, audit reports, inspection logs, training records, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports for project leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Analyze safety performance data and provide recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of construction safety experience, including experience supporting large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, mission critical, or data center construction projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, industry standards, and construction safety best practices.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action management.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence safe behaviors across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety reporting systems.
Preferred
  • Data center, mission-critical, semiconductor, battery manufacturing, hyperscale, or similar high-tech construction experience.
  • OSHA 500/510 certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician).
  • ASP (Associate Safety Professional).
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • Experience working within multi-employer construction environments.

Compensation Range: $130,962.60 - $149,671.54
