MATAROZZI PELSINGER BUILDERS, INC. in the San Francisco Bay Area seeks an experienced Safety Manager to lead the company-wide safety program across active sites.

This hands-on role collaborates with superintendents, project teams, employees, and subcontractors to identify hazards and ensure compliance. You will conduct inspections, lead safety training, investigate incidents, and coordinate Cal/OSHA responses, with domestic travel about 10–20%.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of construction safety experience, preferably with a general contractor.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA construction safety regulations.
• Experience conducting jobsite inspections, incident investigations, and safety training.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required.
• First Aid/CPR certification required or to be obtained after hire.
• CHST, CSP, or CSMC or similar safety certification preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, construction management, or related field preferred.
• Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly between jobsites.
• Willingness to travel domestically 10–20% including overnight stays.

• Review Job Hazard Analyses and pre‑task plans before high‑risk work begins.
• Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and required training.
• Track employee safety certifications and renewal dates.
• Review subcontractor safety documentation and monitor compliance.
• Investigate injuries and incidents; identify root causes and implement actions.
• Coordinate incident reporting with HR, leadership, and insurers.
• Serve as primary contact during Cal/OSHA inspections.
• Maintain OSHA logs, training records, and incident documentation.
• Provide safety updates and recommendations to leadership.
• Enforce safety expectations and address repeated violations.
• Stay current on regulatory changes and construction safety practices.
• Exercise stop‑work authority for imminent hazards.

MatPel is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead our company‑wide safety program and support safe, compliant operations across our active jobsites. This is a hands‑on role that works closely with superintendents, project teams, employees, and subcontractors to identify hazards, provide training, investigate incidents, and ensure safety expectations are consistently followed.

The ideal candidate has strong construction safety experience, a practical understanding of field operations, and the confidence to address concerns directly. This position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and requires regular local jobsite visits and approximately 10%–20% domestic travel.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and administer the company’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program and related safety policies.
• Monitor compliance with federal OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and company safety requirements.
• Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, document findings, and follow up on corrective actions.
• Confirm jobsites are properly set up with all required safety equipment, signage, postings, emergency supplies, and protective measures before work begins and throughout the project.
• Inspect tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to confirm they are in safe working condition, appropriate for the work being performed, and used properly.
• Partner with superintendents and project teams to identify hazards and plan for high‑risk work.
• Review Job Hazard Analyses, pre‑task plans, and subcontractor safety documentation before high‑risk work begins.
• Review project‑specific safety plans, site logistics, and emergency procedures, and coordinate required drills.
• Lead new‑hire and subcontractor safety orientations, toolbox talks, and required safety training.
• Track employee safety certifications, training requirements, and renewal dates.
• Review subcontractor safety qualifications and documentation before work begins, monitor jobsite compliance, and work with project teams to correct unsafe conditions or practices.
• Investigate injuries, incidents, near misses, property damage, and safety concerns; identify root causes and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Coordinate incident reporting and follow‑up with Human Resources, leadership, insurance representatives, and third‑party safety partners.
• Serve as the company’s primary contact during Cal/OSHA inspections and coordinate responses to citations, corrective actions, and regulatory requests.
• Maintain OSHA logs, inspection reports, training records, incident documentation, and other required safety records.
• Track safety trends and provide regular updates and recommendations to leadership.
• Work with field leadership and Human Resources to address repeated safety violations and ensure safety expectations are consistently enforced.
• Stay current on regulatory changes and construction‑industry safety practices.
• Exercise stop‑work authority when an imminent hazard or serious safety concern is identified.

Required Experience, Traits & Skills

• At least five years of construction safety experience, preferably with a general contractor.

• OSHA 30‑Hour Construction certification required.
