Safety Manager- Heavy Civil Construction (PR/607826) Waco, Texas
We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support and oversee field safety operations across active construction projects. This individual will play a key role in planning, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs while ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and owner requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction safety, experience supporting field operations, and a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular jobsite inspections and audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company safety standards.
- Identify hazardous conditions, document findings, and work with project teams to implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and distribute safety reports detailing hazards, trends, and recommendations.
- Facilitate new hire orientations, drug testing, and ongoing safety training programs.
- Monitor subcontractor safety performance and assist with corrective action planning when necessary.
- Participate in project planning and progress meetings to develop and implement project-specific safety strategies.
- Lead toolbox talks, safety committee meetings, and other field safety initiatives.
- Investigate incidents and accidents, perform root cause analysis, and develop measures to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor injured employee treatment and return-to-work programs.
- Track and manage site safety incentive programs.
- Analyze safety data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support insurance audits and maintain accurate safety documentation.
- Assist with training and development of field personnel on safety-related topics.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of construction safety experience, preferably within heavy civil, utility, infrastructure, or related construction sectors.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, hazard recognition, incident investigations, and risk management principles.
- Experience conducting site audits, safety inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action tracking.
- Ability to work independently while partnering with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and executive leadership.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and digital safety management platforms.
- Experience with claims management, incident reporting, and safety documentation preferred.
- Ability to conduct training sessions, orientations, audits, and site visits with minimal supervision.
- CHST certification or willingness to work toward certification preferred.
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 preferred.
- First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification preferred.
- BCSP Certifications (STS, CHST) preferred.
