Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager to conduct safety meetings, audits, inspections, and training programs to ensure compliance across our Massachusetts and New Hampshire footprint.

You will act as a safety resource for staff, perform inspections and investigations, and coordinate training at all levels. The role requires 5–7 years in safety management with OSHA/FMCSA focus, a valid driver's license, and willingness to travel regionally/nationally.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in a relevant field.
• 5-7 years of safety management experience with OSHA/FMCSA focus.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel regionally and nationally.
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental/sustainability field preferred.
• Must pass pre-employment testing.
• Legally eligible to work in the US.
• Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and work in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Investigate accidents and assist with injury handling.
• Prepare injury and incident reports and track claims.
• Collaborate with an adjuster to close accident claims.
• Maintain regulatory documentation and perform safety analyses.
• Develop annual personal growth programs with regional safety team.
• Ensure adherence to accident prevention programs at all locations.
• Participate in training and other learning opportunities to support the company.

Position Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for conducting safety meetings, audits, inspections, planning and implementing preventative care and safety training programs to ensure compliance of all federal, state and company policies across our Massachusetts and New Hampshire footprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Acts as a safety resource to local, regional, and corporate employees and managers.
• Performs internal inspections, audits and reports results to the management team.
• Coordinates and presents safety training for all Casella personnel at all levels within Casella.
• Investigates and assists local managers and supervisors with accident and injuries.
• Prepares and files all injury and incident reports and tracks claims to ensure proper procedures occur.
• Collaborates with an adjuster to ensure proper management and closure of accident claims.
• Maintains regulatory documentation and performs job safety analysis.
• Develops an annual personal growth program in conjunction with the Regional Safety Manager.
• Ensures adherence to all accident prevention programs and safety regulations at all Casella locations.
• Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services and performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an Associate degree, 5-7 years of safety management experience with a focus on OSHA and FMCSA regulations, a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and be legally eligible to work in the US. An ability to travel regionally and nationally occasionally for extended periods of time is needed. A bachelor’s degree and experience or interest in an environmental and/or sustainability field is preferred. An ability to pass pre-employment testing is necessary. The physical ability to handle objects 50-75 lbs. frequently, walk, stand, climb and work under many different weather conditions are needed.

Excellent communication and problem solving skills, an ability to develop, implement and train employees in safe workplace practices, and a strong commitment to workplace safety are required. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, online research skills, and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment are expected.
