Job summary

Group O, Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager in Milan, IL to lead safety programs across office, production, manufacturing, and warehouse settings. You will balance strong regulatory knowledge with practical leadership to create sustainable safety practices and engage employees and leaders at all levels.

Reporting to Human Resources, this role involves travel within IL Quad Cities area and occasional trips to IN, PA, and TX. A background in OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related science.
  • Five+ years’ experience as a Safety Manager or similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Experience maintaining OSHA 300 Log records.
  • Experience in manufacturing or warehousing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee safety training and awareness programs.
  • Provide safety training and education, including proper use of safety equipment.
  • Monitor OSHA, EPA, DOT regulatory changes to ensure compliance.
  • Support OSHA, EPA, DOT, DOL, and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Identify and reduce workplace hazards and unsafe behaviors.
  • Investigate injuries and near misses to identify root causes.
  • Coordinate Right-To-Know programs for hazardous substances.
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and safety records.
  • Prepare reports and analysis for risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Develop strategic safety plans to reduce injuries and illnesses.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims communication.

Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 / year

It requires someone who can combine strong technical knowledge with practical, people-centered leadership. We are looking for someone with broad Environmental Health and Safety experience who can adapt their approach to different environments, employee groups, and operational needs while helping to make safety understandable, practical, and sustainable. Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

  • Developing, coordinating, and overseeing safety training and awareness programs that support a safe, healthy, and environmentally conscious workplace.
  • Providing safety training and education, including proper use of safety equipment
  • Monitoring current and changing safety and health regulations to ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State requirements.
  • Supporting compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, Department of Labor, and workers’ compensation requirements.
  • Identifying, reducing, and helping eliminate workplace hazards, unsafe conditions, and unsafe behaviors.
  • Investigating injuries and near misses, identifying root causes, and recommending steps to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinating Right-To-Know programs related to hazardous chemicals and other substances.
  • Maintaining required safety and health records, including OSHA 300 Logs.
  • Preparing reports, charts, and analysis to support risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Developing strategic safety plans to reduce occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Managing workers’ compensation claims communication with employees, managers, insurance carriers, medical personnel, and legal partners.
  • Developing and managing early Return to Work programs.
  • Supporting hygiene programs such as noise surveys, personal exposure monitoring, and ventilation surveys.
  • Responding to customer surveys and questionnaires related to quality certifications.
  • Managing the annual safety budget.
  • Daily travel to various work settings inside the IL Quad Cities in addition to occasional travel to our locations in IN, PA, and TX.

Who You Are:

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Strong technical knowledge of safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
  • Extensive skill, knowledge, and experience with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Experience developing safety and health programs, policies, and prevention strategies.
  • Experience analyzing accident types, frequency, and severity to help develop prevention programs.
  • Strong risk assessment, problem-solving, communication, and time management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives at the same time.
  • Strong people skills, including the ability to motivate others and work effectively in teams.
  • Adaptability, ethical conduct, and the ability to lead safety initiatives across changing environments.
Job Qualifications

What You Need:

Required or strongly preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a related science degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years’ experience as a Safety Manager, or related role.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
  • Experience maintaining OSHA 300 Log records.
  • Environmental Health and Safety program development and implementation.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience managing workman compensation claims.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or warehousing environment.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Basic First Aid and CPR training.
  • OSHA 10-Hour training.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and HRMS.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

This role may require:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
