Job summary

Combined Selection Group Ltd. is seeking a Safety Manager to lead safety programs in the Greater Chicago Area. Responsibilities include developing site-specific safety plans, conducting orientations, and leading weekly safety meetings.

The role requires strong leadership, OSHA know-how, and the ability to manage subcontractor safety compliance. An established track record in heavy civil construction is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of heavy civil construction experience, highway and roadway focus.
  • Strong knowledge of safety/environmental principles and practices.
  • Ability to identify exposures and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site-specific safety programs and oversee day-to-day activities.
  • Conduct and document new employee orientations and track participation.
  • Lead weekly safety meetings and maintain safety logs and reports.
  • Review subcontractors' safety programs for compliance and effectiveness.
  • Perform daily job site inspections and issue corrective actions for violations.
  • Investigate incidents and maintain all required safety records and reports.
  • Assist in establishing evacuation and fire control procedures and support claims management.

Job description

We currently have an opportunity for a Safety Manager in the Greater Chicago Area.

Safety Manager
Responsibilities
  • Development of site specific safety programs
  • Direct and oversee the day-to-day activities
  • Establish and conduct job site orientation for every new employee for the project and administer and record their participation in the orientation program and issue identification to those employees completing the orientation program.
  • Attend all initial meetings with the Project Staff and Subcontractor representatives to clearly define their role within the confines of the Project Safety Program.
  • Establish and conduct regular (weekly) safety meetings with project staff.
  • Ensure and maintain a log of each toolbox safety meetings held with their employees.
  • Review each Subcontractors Safety Program and ensure that it meets or exceeds the project Safety Program requirements.
  • Conduct regular (daily) job site and work area inspections.
  • Conduct formal weekly job site inspections and complete the safety checklist noting safety violations and corrective actions.
  • Record, notify and prepare written report of any violations or unsafe practices to direct hire employees or Subcontractors for immediate correction actions.
  • Stop at once any violation or unsafe practice.
  • Assist Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing safety procedures including evacuation and fire control procedures.
  • Investigate all incidents and generate proper reports.
  • Establish and maintain all required job safety records.
  • Conduct a monthly overview safety meeting.
  • Assist the Claims Manager in the management of claims.
  • Attend Project Staff Meetings to brief the staff on safety issues on the project and coming from the company and to keep informed of the progress of the job.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience in heavy civil construction-highway and roadway focus.
  • Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Capable of identifying known/potential exposures and recommending corrective actions.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs.
  • Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certificates are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree is highly preferable.
  • CHST or CSP designation is highly desirable
