Job summary

Performance Food Group is seeking a Safety Manager to develop and administer environmental, fleet safety and occupational safety programs, ensuring legal compliance and a safe workplace.

The role will manage claims, deliver training, and drive continuous improvement in safety policies, with focus on reducing incidents and losses within a large food service distribution network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • 5–7 years of related experience and 6 months–1 year of supervisory/management experience.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental, and occupational health practices; DOT/FMCSA knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement environmental, fleet safety, and occupational health programs.
  • Ensure legal compliance and create a safe working environment.
  • Manage claims related to property, casualty, auto liability, and general liability.
  • Deliver safety training within budgetary guidelines and reduce OSHA incidents.
  • Improve safety policies and monitor programs for effectiveness.

Position Purpose:

Responsible for developing, implementing and/or administering environmental, fleet safety and occupational health and safety programs to ensure applicable legal compliance and create and maintain a safe and secure working environment. Also responsible for facility security and disaster preparedness planning and effective management of claims (e.g., property and casualty - workers' compensation, auto liability and physical damage, and products/general liability). Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
  • Deliver safety programs within budgetary guidelines. Conduct safety training, as necessary.
  • Decrease 'lost days from work' and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) recordable incidents.
  • Demonstrate awareness of customer needs and perform job duties to effectively meet those needs.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships which encourage openness, candor and trust, both internally and externally.
  • Provide informative and professional assistance when working with the public/customers/vendors and coworkers.
  • Improve safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor safety programs and implement changes necessary to ensure the health and safety of our associates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Environmental Management, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field
  • 5 - 7 years related experience and
  • 6 months - 1 year supervisory or management experience
Preferred qualifications:
  • 6-10 years Occupational safety and health management or related area within foodservice industry.
  • Knowledge in DOT (Department of Transportation) & FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), and / or related area.
