Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Management or Engineering preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• BCSP credential strongly preferred; CSP ideal; ASP or CHST also considered valuable.
• Certification to teach safety courses by OSHA/appropriate bodies considered valuable.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety efforts on the Albany project and promote a proactive safety culture.

The position focuses on large, complex projects and requires an experienced safety leader who can manage direct reports, collaborate with project and business development teams, and serve as a key liaison with contractors, insurance carriers, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support all safety efforts on the Wadsworth Health Lab project while actively promoting a strong, proactive safety culture.
• Ensure contractor activities are thoroughly preplanned for safety through scope reviews, preconstruction meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Task Analyses (STAs), and related planning tools.
• Review and verify that all contractors meet required safety submittal standards before and during project execution.
• Monitor and enforce contractor compliance with the project’s safety plan, procedures, and expectations.
• Maintain all safety-related documentation using designated safety software and ensure records are accurate, current, and audit-ready.
• Identify and recommend corrective actions for conditions or practices that may pose hazards to employee safety or health.
• Develop, provide, and analyze safety trending reports with the project team and create action plans to address identified trends or issues.
• Coach project teams in effective hazard identification, risk mitigation, and timely correction of safety issues.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determine root causes, and complete all required reports and documentation.
• Ensure project teams have appropriate safety equipment, tools, and resources to perform work safely and in compliance with regulations.
• Serve as the project’s safety liaison with insurance carriers and manage safety-related project correspondence and requirements.
• Provide safety training to project teams on company, client, and OSHA requirements, ensuring content is accurate, relevant, and up to date.
• Train direct reports on safety processes, procedures, and daily tasks, ensuring consistent application of standards and practices.
• Manage the workload and performance of direct reports, aligning their activities with overall company and project standards.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment that motivates and engages safety team members and project staff.
• Communicate company and department strategies to direct reports and help translate those strategies into practical safety initiatives on site.
• Collaborate closely with business development teams to align safety performance with sales strategies, including performance metrics on assigned projects, pursuits, and client deliverables.
• Actively participate in building and strengthening client, partner, and industry relationships that support the organization’s reputation as a preferred builder.
• Support continuous improvement of safety programs, procedures, and training based on lessons learned and industry best practices.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of construction safety management experience, preferably on large, complex projects such as data centers, semiconductor facilities, or pharmaceutical projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety and health principles, techniques, methods, regulations, and their interpretations.
• Proven ability to identify current and potential future safety and health exposures and recommend effective corrective actions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Management or Engineering preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• BCSP credential strongly preferred; Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is ideal, with Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) credentials also considered valuable.
• Certification and authorization as an instructor by appropriate governing bodies and OSHA to teach safety courses to employees and contractors.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with field staff, leadership, contractors, and clients.
• Developed or developing management and leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, and team development.
• Experience in construction safety within environments such as earthwork and general construction, with familiarity in construction management practices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on large-scale projects in sectors such as data centers, semiconductor facilities, and pharmaceutical or health-related construction.
• Familiarity with safety documentation and reporting using specialized safety software platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with business development and project teams to integrate safety performance into client deliverables and project pursuits.
• Experience providing formal safety training to diverse audiences, including employees, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Ability to interpret and apply OSHA standards and client-specific safety requirements in a complex construction environment.
• Strong analytical skills for reviewing incident trends, developing reports, and implementing data-driven action plans.
• Proven ability to build positive relationships with clients, partners, insurance carriers, and industry stakeholders.

Work Environment

This role is primarily onsite in Albany, NY. The position operates in an active construction environment that includes field work, site walks, and interaction with multiple contractors and project teams. The work involves regular use of computers, safety software, and the Microsoft Office suite for documentation, reporting, and communication. Travel may be required, with a preference for candidates based in or near the Northeast; a travel stipend is available for approved travel. Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $67.00 - $77.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
