Job Description
The Safety Manager's primary responsibility is to create a safe work environment and safety-focused culture resulting in a Zero-Accident Operations. This is achieved by establishing and/or upgrading policies, procedures, work-steps, training programs, accident/incident investigations, and other programs necessary to meet the company's Zero-Accident safety objective. The position involves working directly with all organizational levels to design, implement, and audit strategic safety programs continuously.
Job Tasks
- Proven safety leader who inspires others to practice safety 24/7.
- Collaborate with operations to implement proactive safety compliance focusing on training.
- Participate in daily operations team meetings.
- Oversee safety training and forklift certification for new hires and refresher training for current employees as needed.
- Serve as the primary contact for local, state, and federal inquiries or onsite inspections.
- Facilitate workers' compensation processes with managers, supervisors, and HR.
- Maintain and compile OSHA 300 Logs and required postings.
- Evaluate and upgrade safety policies & procedures to improve safety performance.
- Conduct regular safety audits of facilities, equipment, work practices, PPE, and other safety concerns.
- Perform annual audits to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular safety training sessions, ideally monthly.
- Lead accident and incident investigations, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions promptly.
- Research regulations and policies, implementing necessary changes for compliance.
- Analyze injury/claims reports to identify trends and safety improvement opportunities.
- Maintain records and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies (OSHA, DEP, etc.).
- Maintain ISO standards for employee safety.
- Serve as safety committee representative.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related fields preferred.
- 1-3 years of safety experience in manufacturing, preferably heavy manufacturing.
- Leadership skills and experience implementing change without direct management authority.
- OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications required.
- Must be willing to travel between two manufacturing plants in Washington County.
Physical Demands
No heavy lifting required. Significant time spent in hot manufacturing environments. Regular travel within the county is necessary.
Work Environment
Exposure to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, high places, weather conditions, noise, and vibration. Must wear PPE for extended periods.
