Job summary

St. Joseph Center in Los Angeles operates a Skid Row Care Campus offering safety, housing connections, and trauma-informed services. The Safety Lead will supervise shift-level Safety staff, maintain a visible presence, and lead during incidents.

This hands-on role requires coordinating assignments, monitoring campus perimeter, de-escalation, and coaching staff, with a hybrid onsite schedule and generous benefits.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of relevant experience in safety, homeless services, behavioral health, crisis response, security, or residential services.
• Prior lead, supervisory, or team-coordination experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with de-escalation, crisis response, incident management, or emergency procedures preferred.
• Strong judgment, communication, teamwork, situational awareness, and ability to remain calm in rapidly changing situations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Safety staff assignments, posts, breaks, coverage, shift briefings, and handoffs.
• Monitor campus and perimeter conditions, including Crocker Street, and respond to emerging safety concerns.
• Model trauma-informed engagement, conflict resolution, and de-escalation while supporting appropriate crisis and emergency response.
• Coach and support Safety staff, reinforce documentation and safety procedures, and elevate significant concerns to the Safety Manager.
