Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our Facilities Management team. You will inspect, repair, and maintain wood, drywall, tile, metal studs, cabinets, and doors across the hospital to keep the environment safe and functional for patients, families, and staff.

The role requires Journeyman-level carpentry experience, ability to read blueprints, and commitment to compliance and safety. Work hours include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of Journeyman-level carpentry experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, Fire and Life Safety codes and computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, repair, alter, install, and maintain wooden and metal structures throughout the hospital.
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, specifications; ensure work aligns with plans.
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and shop equipment; use measuring devices.
  • Calculate materials quantities and assemble tools and materials for each job.
  • Maintain safety procedures and compliance with HIPAA and ethics training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
