Job summary

Pyrotek is seeking a Safety & Environmental Engineer to partner with manufacturing and product teams to evaluate processes, equipment, materials, and changes for safety and environmental impacts. You will help ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental responsibility on the shop floor.

You will conduct hazard assessments, perform emissions calculations, support environmental permits and reporting, and lead audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of safety and/or environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and develop practical paths to compliance.

As a Safety & Environmental Engineer, you'll be a key partner to our manufacturing and product teams - helping evaluate processes, equipment, materials, and operational changes to ensure we work safely, responsibly, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

This is a hands-on opportunity to influence how manufacturing gets done while helping build a culture where safety, environmental responsibility, accountability, and continuous improvement are part of the operation - not just policies on a wall.

What You'll Do

• Partner directly with manufacturing and product teams to evaluate new and changing processes, equipment, raw materials, and products for safety and environmental impacts.
• Lead and sustain safety and environmental programs at assigned manufacturing operation.
• Maintain site permit and program compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations (reporting programs listed below).
• Conduct hazard assessments and identify practical solutions to improve manufacturing processes and regulatory compliance.
• Analyze process and product data to identify opportunities for safety, environmental, and sustainability improvements.
• Perform complex emissions calculations and support environmental permits and regulatory reporting.
• Conduct and/or lead site, contractor, and supplier safety and environmental audits.
• Develop corrective actions and lead improvement initiatives through completion.
• Support OSHA reporting, environmental reporting, SDS requirements, monitoring, testing, and regulatory documentation.
• Provide EHS training to manufacturing team members and reinforce a behavior-based safety culture.
• Investigate all incidents and injuries and facilitate return to work processes.
• Work with third-party testing, calibration, training, and environmental service providers.
• Communicate with regulatory agencies and provide technical support during compliance activities.

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 4 years of safety and/or environmental regulatory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical and engineering skills, including the ability to evaluate chemical, physical, environmental, and process-related hazards.
• Experience interpreting regulatory requirements and developing practical paths to compliance.
• Ability to analyze technical data and develop corrective actions and improvement plans.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with manufacturing employees, leadership, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel , including pivot tables, lookup formulas, aggregate functions, and statistical analysis.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• A strong commitment to ethical, legally compliant, and responsible business practices.

The Manufacturing Environment

This role combines office-based engineering and administrative work with frequent time in manufacturing and operational areas. Site may involve inspections, process evaluations, testing, sample gathering, and supporting process or product changes. Strong Safety mindset.

The manufacturing environment may include moderate background noise, hard walking/standing surfaces, varying temperatures, airborne dust, and graphite particles. Appropriate PPE - including safety footwear, safety glasses/goggles, and respiratory protection when required - may be necessary.

Travel

Domestic travel by land and air may be required, up to 15%.

Additional Information

The minimum and maximum salary range for this full-time position is $80k - $95k + benefits. Relocation benefits may be available, if deemed applicable based on candidate location.

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and/or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in this posted role reflect the base salary only and do not include bonus or benefits.
