Job summary

Pronto AI is seeking a Safety Engineering Manager for Mining Deployments to lead the safety case, hazard analyses, and commissioning efforts for autonomous mining trucks. You will build the safety argument, define tests, and oversee incidents and change assessments while shaping a small, capable team.

Based in San Francisco, you will work onsite, collaborate with engineers and operators, and drive critical safety decisions as the fleet expands.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in systems safety, safety engineering or a closely related systems discipline in a safety-critical domain.
• You have built a safety argument from scratch — claims, evidence, structure — and defended its sufficiency to someone who pushed back.
• Structured hazard analysis depth at both the system and the operational level, and the judgment to pick the method the situation warrants.
• You have written the process rather than inherited one: investigation, triage, qualification, or their equivalents.

Responsibilities

• Build the off-road truck safety case. Claims, evidence, limits, and what remains open.
• Hazard analysis. Assess additions from installations and site conditions, translate into requirements.
• Test preparation. Define demonstrations, acceptance criteria, and evidence produced.
• Commissioning readiness. Manage the gate between installed and operating.
• Incidents and triage. Own intake, severity model, investigations, and corrective actions.
• Change assessment. Evaluate impact of software releases, new variants or site layouts.
• Grow and lead a small team, hiring 1-2 engineers as needed.
• Use tooling to draft and maintain site risk assessments and triage event backlogs.
