Job summary

Applied Intuition in Sunnyvale is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to lead machine-level safety activities for autonomous mining and heavy equipment. You will build safety cases, derive MSRs, and drive hazard analyses with engineering teams to close safety gaps through design and validation.

The role emphasizes ISO 26262 Part 4/6 familiarity, cross-functional collaboration, and hands-on safety artifacts across braking, steering, propulsion, and autonomy domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field.
• 3+ years of system safety experience (ISO 26262 Part 6).
• Hands-on experience with system safety analyses and safety artifacts.
• Experience with cross-functional teams and safety requirements derivation.
• Automotive functional safety experience is relevant and transferable.

Responsibilities

• Develop machine-level safety cases for autonomous mining deployments and driverless operations.
• Design hazard identification and risk assessment activities for machine functions and scenarios.
• Derive machine safety requirements (MSRs) for brake, steer, throttle, transmission, E-stop, and autonomous systems.
• Support validation strategies and safety acceptance criteria for demonstrations and deployments.
• Collaborate with systems, controls, software, hardware, and validation teams to verify end‑to‑end safety.
