SkyMark Refuelers is seeking a Safety Engineer to plan, implement, and continuously improve occupational health and safety programs in a manufacturing setting in Missouri. You will partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, HR, and leadership to identify risks, implement controls, and lead investigations to ensure a safe, compliant workplace.

Job description

The Safety Engineer is responsible for planning, implementing, and continuously improving the organization's occupational health and safety programs within a manufacturing environment. This position ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulatory requirements while supporting company initiatives to eliminate workplace hazards, reduce incidents, and promote a proactive safety culture.

The Safety Engineer partners with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, human resources, and leadership to identify risks, implement engineering controls, conduct investigations, and ensure employees work in a safe and compliant environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct facility safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
  • Perform Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Risk Assessments, and Process Safety Reviews.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage events using root cause analysis techniques.
  • Develop corrective and preventive action plans and monitor completion.
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation and ongoing safety training.
  • Coordinate Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, Fall Protection, and PPE programs.
  • Monitor contractor safety compliance.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, regulatory documentation, and required safety records.
  • Assist with workers' compensation case management and return-to-work initiatives.
  • Participate in facility expansion projects and equipment installations to ensure safe design principles are incorporated.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning, evacuation drills, and incident response activities.
  • Analyze safety performance metrics and prepare reports for management.
  • Support ISO 45001 initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
  • Promote employee engagement through safety committees and behavioral safety programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This position requires frequent exposure to manufacturing operations, including noise, dust, temperature variations, forklifts, cranes, chemicals, and heavy industrial equipment. Appropriate PPE must be worn while in production areas.
