Job summary

Midwest Foods, a wholesale food distributor serving Chicago and surrounding areas, seeks a Safety Director to develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and safety procedures to promote safe operations across all facilities.

The role requires extensive OSHA knowledge, strong leadership, and the ability to conduct training and risk assessments; you will collaborate with management to ensure regulatory compliance and a safer workplace.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
• Maintains OSHA log and reporting; ensures OSHA records are up to date.
• Create and update safety policies, procedures, and programs.
• Supports safety committee with technical and administrative input.
• Fosters a positive safety culture; encourages hazard reporting.
• Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
• Performs risk assessments and hazard analyses.
• Conducts employee safety training; updates training materials as needed.
• Reviews safety incidents and auto/incident reports for corrective actions.
• Represents the company in safety-related matters with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.

Midwest Foods is a wholesale food distributor providing top quality food products to numerous food establishments in Chicago, surrounding suburbs, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. We import fruits and vegetables from all over the world and distribute these products to local markets. We are looking to complement our growth by hiring a Safety Director.The Safety Director will develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the organization.Job type: on site, overseeing and managing all company facilitiesSchedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00AM-5:30PMResponsibilities:Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.Ensures that the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations and regulations are properly maintained.Create and update safety policies, procedures and programs.Provides technical and administrative support to the safety committee.Foster a positive safety culture where employees feel comfortable reporting hazards and concerns.Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
