Job summary

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a full-time Safety Coordinator for our Employee Engagement (HR) team at the San Diego Campus. The role works 40 hours per week and requires an associate degree or recognized safety credential.

You will conduct routine safety inspections, investigate injuries and near-misses, manage workers’ compensation claims, and support IIPP and ergonomic programs while delivering safety trainings to staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or cert in Occupational Safety or related field, or BCSP OHST certification.
  • 1+ year related work experience; 3+ years preferred.
  • Workers’ Compensation administration experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; able to learn safety systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine workplace safety inspections and track corrective actions.
  • Investigate injuries, near-misses and safety incidents; follow-up.
  • Serve as the contact for workplace injury and WC intake; submit claims.
  • Support IIPP and other safety programs; assist with training.
  • Coordinate ergonomic assessments and safety trainings; answer questions.

Submits claims to the insurance carrier and maintains claim information, files, and tracking systems.* Supports implementation and sustainment of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and other assigned safety programs.* Supports the Workplace Violence Prevention Program, including hazard assessments, training, documentation, corrective-action tracking, incident follow-up, and related coordination as assigned.* Conducts workplace ergonomic assessments as requested, identifying potential hazards and recommending practical improvements to promote employee safety, comfort, and productivity.* Creates, coordinates and delivers various occupational safety trainings, including during New Hire Orientation and recurring safety training as needed. Serves as a routine technical resource for employee and supervisor safety questions within the scope of the position’s training and authority.**What we’re looking for:*** Requires an associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health or a related field; OR completion of a recognized professional certificate program in Occupational Safety and Health; OR current BCSP Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) certification or higher-level BCSP safety credential* Must have at least one (1) year of related work experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Three (3) or more years of related work experience preferred.* Workers’ Compensation administration experience is highly preferred.* Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn and maintain safety management and claims systems.* Must have a valid CA driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.**Location & Hours:** Based at our San Diego Campus, with expected travel to all SDHS campuses and other local locations as needed using own transportation. This position works 40 hours per week.**Pay:**Starting range is between $26.60 – $29.61 per hour.The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time. For all candidates, the actual starting pay rate is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to your years of related education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
