Job summary

San Diego Humane Society is seeking a full-time Safety Coordinator to join the Employee Engagement (HR) team at our San Diego campus. You will conduct routine safety inspections, investigate incidents, manage workers’ compensation and deliver training to staff.

Based in San Diego with local travel, you’ll support IIPP, ergonomics, hazard assessments, and serve as a technical resource for safety questions. Minimum associate degree or certificate, CA driver’s license, and MS Office proficiency

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety or related field OR completion of a recognized professional certificate program in Occupational Safety and Health OR current BCSP OHST certification or higher-level BCSP safety credential
  • One year of related work experience required; three or more years preferred
  • Workers’ Compensation administration experience is highly preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn safety management and claims systems
  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes

Responsibilities

  • Conducts routine workplace safety inspections and documents hazards with corrective actions tracked to completion
  • Investigates workplace injuries, near-misses, and safety incidents with follow-up
  • Serves as first point of contact for workplace injury and Workers’ Compensation intake
  • Supports IIPP and other safety program implementation and sustainment
  • Supports Workplace Violence Prevention Program including hazard assessments and training

Submits claims to the insurance carrier and maintains claim information, files, and tracking systems.Supports implementation and sustainment of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and other assigned safety programs.Supports the Workplace Violence Prevention Program, including hazard assessments, training, documentation, corrective-action tracking, incident follow-up, and related coordination as assigned.Conducts workplace ergonomic assessments as requested, identifying potential hazards and recommending practical improvements to promote employee safety, comfort, and productivity.Creates, coordinates and delivers various occupational safety trainings, including during New Hire Orientation and recurring safety training as needed. Serves as a routine technical resource for employee and supervisor safety questions within the scope of the position’s training and authority.What we’re looking for:Requires an associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health or a related field; OR completion of a recognized professional certificate program in Occupational Safety and Health; OR current BCSP Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) certification or higher-level BCSP safety credentialMust have at least one (1) year of related work experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Three (3) or more years of related work experience preferred.Workers’ Compensation administration experience is highly preferred.Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn and maintain safety management and claims systems.Must have a valid CA driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.Location & Hours: Based at our San Diego Campus, with expected travel to all SDHS campuses and other local locations as needed using own transportation. This position works 40 hours per week.Pay: Starting range is between $26.60 – $29.61 per hour.The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time.
