Job summary

Owen Thomas Group is seeking a Safety Coordinator to uphold a safe work environment across commercial construction projects. You will support field teams, perform jobsite inspections, and lead safety training for crews including hot work and LOTO procedures.

You will stay current on OSHA and federal safety requirements while building strong relationships with foremen, superintendents, and project personnel on active sites.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of commercial construction safety experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements related to commercial construction.
  • Commercial electrical experience is a plus.
  • Formal trade apprenticeship is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety practices.
  • Good knowledge of NEC and safety standards.
  • Ability to read blueprints and other technical documents.
  • Comfortable using test meters and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to train, coach, and motivate field employees.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable around construction equipment.
  • Able to work independently on active job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and document findings.
  • Work directly with foremen and field technicians on safety-sensitive work.
  • Assist with MOPs, hot work permits, LOTO procedures and power disconnects.
  • Maintain safety documentation and ensure project compliance.
  • Verify installations meet safety, quality, and project requirements.
  • Provide safety training to field employees on equipment and trench safety.
  • Coach employees on safe work practices and reinforce safety culture.
  • Conduct weekly site walks and maintain inspection records.
  • Review toolbox talks and pre-task plans during site inspections.
  • Inspect service vehicles and equipment for safety.
  • Oversee project safety representatives when needed.
  • Stay current on OSHA, state and federal safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings and safety committee activities.
  • Lead safety discussions and training sessions.
  • Build positive relationships with GC, superintendents, and project personnel.
  • Identify hazards with customers and project teams and address them early.
  • Respond quickly to accidents and assist investigations.
  • Document accidents and near-misses and help develop corrective actions.
  • Notify safety leadership of accidents and complete required documentation.
  • Help create and teach safety training classes.
  • Maintain accurate records and inventory of safety equipment.
  • Assist with special safety projects as needed.

Job Description

We are looking for a Safety Coordinator to help maintain a safe work environment across commercial construction projects and support field teams with safety-related work. This person will spend time in the field working directly with Foremen, Technicians, General Contractors, and Superintendents. The role will involve jobsite inspections, employee training, accident investigations, safety documentation, and helping crews identify and address potential hazards before they become larger issues.

** Responsibilities**

  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections and document findings.
  • Work directly with Foremen and field technicians on safety-sensitive work.
  • Assist with Method of Procedures (MOPs), hot work permits, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and power disconnect/reconnect permits.
  • Make sure safety documentation stays accurate and up to date throughout each project.
  • Verify installations meet safety, quality, and project requirements.
  • Inspect equipment and materials during jobsite visits, particularly for shutdowns and other safety-sensitive work.
  • Provide safety training to field employees, including equipment training, trench safety, and other construction-related topics.
  • Coach employees on safe work practices and help reinforce a strong safety culture.
  • Conduct weekly site walks and maintain accurate inspection records.
  • Review toolbox talks and pre-task plans during site inspections.
  • Perform safety inspections of service vehicles and equipment as assigned.
