Job Overview

The Safety Manager is responsible for promoting a safe & healthy work environment and for continuously improving Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) systems to reduce incidents and ensure regulatory compliance. This position assists in developing and directing safety programs and ensures management takes action to improve employee safety. The manager works directly with project-level functional leads (e.g., Journeymen, Service Technicians) to integrate or address applicable safety/health requirements in work products and activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct safety assessments and inspections of construction projects to monitor compliance with safety/health requirements, contractual commitments, laws, regulations, and site‑specific environmental, safety & health plans, emphasizing the company’s “Safety leading measures.”
  • Collaborate with internal and external management to develop, prepare, and implement environmental, safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Develop Method of Procedure (MOP), site‑specific safety plans, critical activity plans, and work permits.
  • Investigate employee or sub‑contractor injuries, motor vehicle accidents, spills, discharges, theft, vandalism, property damages, and develop written root‑cause analysis reports.
  • Conduct safety and compliance training for supervisors and field employees as directed by the Corporate Safety & Risk Manager.
  • Provide comprehensive written reports documenting site visits, activities, and incidents as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience in a large commercial construction setting with knowledge of injury prevention, compliance, and risk reduction techniques.
  • Commercial or industrial electrical trade experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety with 10+ years of full‑time construction safety management experience; or trade experience with a board‑certified safety credential (e.g., CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST) and five years of full‑time construction safety management experience; or trade experience with a current OSHA 500 certification and ten years of full‑time construction safety management experience.
  • Must possess an OSHA 30 construction certificate valid within five years.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations applicable to construction and general industry.
  • First Aid, CPR & AED certifications; willing to lead in emergency situations.
  • Experience with Return‑to‑Work programs and coordination with workers under workers’ compensation care.
  • Competent Person designation: Electrical safety (NFPA 70E), Excavation, Fall protection, and Confined space.
  • OSHA 500, 501, and 510 certifications.
  • MEWP and fall protection trainer.
  • Experience with onsite OSHA investigations and inspections.
  • Self‑driven, able to work alone or as part of a team on assigned tasks and initiatives.
  • Ability to work split shifts, overtime, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, supervisory, and leadership skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and reach with hands and arms at waist level and below; work in limited space.
  • Regularly required to talk to communicate detailed and accurate information.
  • Regularly required to hear with or without correction to receive and interpret detailed information and instructions.
  • Regularly required to sit for long and short periods at a desk or while driving to remote work sites.
  • Regularly required to walk for long and short distances to accomplish job tasks.
  • Regularly required to reach: extend hands and arms including reaching in front of the body and at shoulder level.
  • Ability to see with or without correction. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly work in environments of extreme cold and hot temperatures.
  • Regularly work at heights and elevated positions to visually inspect work areas.
