State of Nevada's Department of Business and Industry—OSHA division in Las Vegas seeks Safety Specialists to enforce state and federal safety laws. Under supervision, incumbents will train in inspections, identify hazards, and prepare reports.

Roles include site inspections, accident investigations, and mitigating compliance actions. Incumbents may travel within Southern Nevada, use State vehicles, and work varied shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety and health, engineering, chemistry, biological or physical sciences, fire science, or business administration.
• Associate's degree in applied science, mechanical technology or closely related field with two years' experience in occupational safety and health.
• Three years' experience in the building trades, industrial operations, or occupational safety and health.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High school diploma and three years of related experience.

Responsabilités

• Perform unannounced compliance inspections of employer sites covered by OSHA; identify feasible abatement methods.
• Investigate industrial accidents resulting in serious injuries or fatalities and complaints; determine cause and contributory factors.
• Coordinate with emergency services, law enforcement, and company personnel; secure evidence and prepare findings.
• Develop complete case files for inspections and investigations; provide testimony if required.
• Progress through training; may advance with satisfactory performance and approval by supervisor.
