Job summary

Block by Block is seeking a Safety Ambassador to patrol zones on foot or bike, deter unwanted activity, assist pedestrians, and report incidents to authorities when needed. This role welcomes retirees, veterans, and students seeking their first job.

Requirements include a CT Guard Card, a high school diploma or GED, the ability to work outdoors in all weather for an eight-hour shift, and strong English communication.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned zones on foot and/or bike to deter unwanted activity.
• Provide information and directions to pedestrians; maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
• Report suspicious activity to local authorities with clear descriptions.
• Engage with pedestrians with a greeting to share city information.
• Visit zone businesses to share information and collect contact details.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed in English.

What You'll Be Doing :

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/ or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance from persons violating low-level quality-of-life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.

• Experience required . We will train.
• Valid CT Guard Card required.
• Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions (free uniforms provided)
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language in order to create basic reports.
