Job summary

Block by Block is hiring a Safety Ambassador to patrol zones on foot or by bike, deter unwanted behavior, provide directions, and engage with pedestrians in a friendly, professional manner.

Weekend availability is required. Applicants must be 18+, have a HS diploma or GED, and be able to work outdoors in all weather; training is provided and weekly pay with pay advances are offered. The role includes completing basic reports in English and helping keep communities safe.

Qualifications

• Experience preferred. We will train.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to walk or traverse (including riding a bike) for eight hours with breaks.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior.
• Provide information, assistance and directions to pedestrians and visitors.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities.
• Firmly request compliance to low level quality of life crimes.
• Engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting and provide city information.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed in English.

What You'll Be Doing :

• Patrol the assigned zone on foot and/ or bike as a deterrent and be on the lookout for unwanted behavior and activity.
• Provide information, assistance and directions to pedestrians and visitors. Must maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Be watchful for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to local authorities via established communication methods. Must be able to articulate an accurate description of persons, vehicles, and other identifiers.
• Firmly and courteously request compliance to persons violating low level quality of life crimes, such as panhandling, loitering, disruptive behavior, etc.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians with a friendly greeting/smile in order to provide directions and city information.
• Responsible for making a specified number of visits to zone businesses to share information and gather contact information.
• Must be able to complete basic daily reports of tasks completed, which requires being proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
