Job summary

Suburban Cook County Online Application Consortium is seeking a STEM teacher to provide instruction to students in applying concepts from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through project-based learning.

The teacher will collaborate with colleagues, adapt lessons for diverse learners, assess progress, and communicate with families. This full-time position follows a nine-month academic year and is based on the district’s collective bargaining agreement.

Qualifications

• PEL with K-9 and Science Endorsements required.
• Strong proficiency in educational technology.
• Ability to teach STEM/STEAM through project-based learning.

Responsibilities

• Instructs students in proper use, care, and safe handling of equipment.
• Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
• Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
• Teaches students to work collaboratively to solve problems and to think logically and creatively.
• Assesses the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
• Maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
• Communicates with parents and administrators on students' progress.
• Collaboratively develops and implements cross-curricular student projects with colleagues in other content areas.
• Keeps updated on current research in STEM/STEAM advances and provides information to administration for discussion on updating the STEM curriculum.
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with students, staff, and parents through oral and written communication.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education.
• Supervises students in and out of classroom as assigned.
• Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

• Ability to lift 20lbs and move 50lbs
• Frequent sitting, walking, talking, bending, lifting, and stooping required.
• Vision abilities including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Occasional travel to various school locations required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in an environment where unusual temperature, noise, and hazards are relatively non-existent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Nine-month work year (185 days)
• Four personal days
• FLSA Exempt
• Salary based on Collective Bargaining Agreement

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

Performance of the position will be evaluated with provisions set by the Board of Education as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
