Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Created in 2012, the Carolina Higher Education Opportunity Programs ( CHEOP ) office Comprises the NC Health Careers Access Program (NC- HCAP ) and TRiO Programs (Upward Bound Program and the McNair Scholars Program).
Through both NC- HCAP and TRiO Programs, CHEOP Promotes and Maintains Programs, Activities, and Services that Facilitate Access to College, Graduate and Ph.D. Programs, as well as Health Professional Schools for Individuals from Historically Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups, First Generation Status, Rural and/or Low- Income Backgrounds. The Programs under CHEOP Enhance Participants’ Academic Performance, Retention, and Personal and Professional Development to Promote Graduation in Secondary and Post-Secondary Education.
Position Summary
The program assistant’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assist Program Educator with session preparation and management.
• Assist NC- HCAP Staff with S.E.P. related projects/tasks as requested.
• Responsible for facilitating Supplemental Instruction (SI) Sessions – Tuesday/Thursday’s from 4:30-6:30PM in the Horton Residence Hall. You will have access to a white board and markers.
• Complete miscellaneous projects as assigned by educators and NC- HCAP Staff.
• Work in partnership with the educators to complete the End-of-Program Student Evaluation Forms
Program dates are May 21 – July 18, 2025. CHEOP /NC- HCAP is hiring for 1 program assistant/per session. The session schedule is as follows and cannot be modified:
Physics (1) Program Assistant, Session Offered on Tues/Thurs from 9:45-11:45AM
Organic Chemistry (1) Program Assistant, Session Offered on Mon/Wed from 1:00-3:00PM and Fri from 8:00-10:00AM
Human Physiology (1) Program Assistant, Session Offered on Mon/Wed from 9:45-11:45AM and Fri from 10:15-12:15PM
Quantitative Skills-Biostatistics (1) Program Assistant, Session Offered on Tues/Thurs from 1:00-3:00PM
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
-Experience teaching undergraduate students
-Curriculum development and implementation
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working with undergraduate students/populations from disadvantaged backgrounds.
