Job summary

Amazon Robotics is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer with Rust expertise to join the Safety Perception team. You will develop safety-rated firmware for autonomous robots, spanning multi-core MCUs/CPUs/GPUs, with hard real-time requirements and Linux coexistence on the same chip.

You will work across the sensor pipeline, from driver integration to collision detection, and contribute to interfaces, tooling, and safety analyses for IEC 61508 certification.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 3+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Proficiency in embedded development in Rust; alternatively, strong C/C++ embedded experience with demonstrated willingness and ability to work in Rust
• Experience with sensor data acquisition or signal processing (cameras, LiDAR, time-of-flight, or similar)
• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, or similar RPC/serialization frameworks
• Familiarity developing embedded software in a safety-standards-controlled environment such as IEC 61508 or ISO 26262
• Working knowledge of 3D geometry, coordinate transforms, or point cloud processing
• Experience with robotics middleware (ROS/ROS2) or visualization tools (Foxglove, RViz)

Responsibilities

• Develop Rust-based embedded firmware on multi-core platforms with real-time safety and Linux coexistence
• Work across the full sensor pipeline: driver integration, frame acquisition, point cloud, and real-time collision detection
• Design perception features for obstacle detection under IEC 61508 safety certification
• Build interfaces and tooling (gRPC/Protobuf, CLI, visualization) for navigation and provisioning workflows
• Create design documents and safety analyses for third-party certification and witness testing
• Debug end-to-end—from raw sensor data to safety responses—on real robots on test floors and in production
