The University of Hawaii system invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, John A. Burns School of Medicine.

This temporary, 11-month, 15% FTE position supports neighbor island medical education expansion and serves as a liaison between JABSOM and neighbor island hospitals, clinics, and surgical practices. Minimum qualifications include an MD/DO, board certification in Surgery, Hawai'i licensure eligibility, and proven teaching ability.

Formación

• MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Current American Board of Surgery Certification with maintenance/continuous certification or equivalent.
• Eligible for or licensed to practice in Hawai'i.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Experience in small group teaching, lectures, and conferences.
• Ability to be a role model for learners and junior colleagues.
• Willingness to travel to neighbor islands in Hawai'i.

Responsabilidades

• Act as champion for neighbor island medical education expansion and liaise between JABSOM and neighbor island hospitals and clinics.
• Facilitate faculty development activities to strengthen teaching, assessment, mentorship, and support for community-based educators.
• Assist leadership in developing policies and initiatives for expanding surgical education on neighbor islands.
• Assess and plan surgical training capacity respecting LCME and ACGME requirements across sites.
• Build relationships with neighbor island surgeons to expand clinical preceptors and faculty participation.
• Collaborate with Hawaii Island, Maui, Kaua'i, Moloka'i, and Lana'i leaders to develop rotations and ensure quality experiences.
• Develop rural exposure experiences and contribute to rural health initiatives.
• Guide student and resident placements and align learning with curricular objectives.
• Monitor quality of clinical learning experiences to ensure compliance with ACGME, LCME, and boards.
