Job summary

Innovative Computer Solutions Group, Inc in San Diego seeks a mechanical engineer to design ruggedized, IP-rated enclosures and components for extreme environments. The role involves creating 3D CAD models (Creo 8 or SolidWorks) for plastic, die cast, sheet metal parts, and detailing drawings for prototypes and tooling.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with 3D CAD systems (Creo or SolidWorks).
• Strong background in mechanics of systems, solid mechanics and heat transfer.
• Experience using finite element analysis tools.
• 5 years of experience.
• Strong communication skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design rugged IP-rated enclosures, seals and gaskets to meet IP54+ ingress protection.
• Create 3D CAD models for plastic, die cast, sheet metal and CNC’d parts.
• Fabricate and assemble prototypes using rapid prototyping (3D printing, SLA, CNC).
• Generate detailed drawings for PCBs, boards, EMI shields, and enclosure parts.
• Analyze mechanical systems for structural integrity using static and dynamic methods.
• Design lightweight mechanical structures for drones using magnesium casting.
• Perform heat transfer calculations and thermal/structural simulations (FEA).
• Design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
• Conduct design verification testing (DVT) using MIL-STD-810 profiles.
• Coordinate with ECAD-MCAD interfaces to avoid component interference.
• Create BOMs and engage vendors to move designs to production.
