Job summary

Shift5 seeks a Mechanical Engineer to drive rugged hardware development for data collection and processing at the edge. The role spans mechanical design, hardware lifecycle management, and aerospace compliance, with hands-on field work and close customer collaboration.

You will design rugged enclosures, manage CAD/PLM, and ensure DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 compliance while traveling to customer sites and supporting integration tests. An active clearance is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in mechanical engineering of rugged enclosures or hardware integration.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience with MIL-STD-810 and DO-160 standards.
• Hands-on prototyping, assembly, integration, and testing.
• Comfort in fast-paced, regulated environments and travel.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop ruggedized enclosure assemblies and installation kits for military/aerospace use.
• Own CAD modeling and PLM; generate production drawings with GD&T under DO-160 and MIL-STD-810.
• Collaborate with vendors for tooling, procurement, BOMs, and design revisions.
• Travel to field sites to lead on-site fit checks, installations, and integration testing.
• Prototype, test, and validate mechanical designs against field requirements.
• Translate field findings into design improvements to resolve interfacing issues.
