Job summary

Black Diamond Advanced Technology (BDATech) in Chandler, AZ, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design ruggedized electronic systems for military applications. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field; advanced degree a plus.
• 3–7 years of relevant industry experience (defense, rugged electronics, aerospace, or similar).
• Proficiency with Creo, SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools; experience with PDM systems a plus.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing methods including CNC machining, injection molding, and sheet metal.
• Experience designing for harsh environments (shock, vibration, thermal extremes, ingress protection).
• Familiarity with MIL‑STD testing and certification processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
• Self-motivated problem solvers who communicate clearly and take ownership from concept through fielding.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, enclosures, and assemblies for ruggedized electronic systems.
• 3D modeling, simulation, and detailed mechanical analysis using CAD tools.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, test reports, and design validations.
• Perform tolerance, thermal, and structural analysis for mission-critical products.
• Plan, build, and test prototypes to verify mechanical performance and environmental resilience.
• Collaborate with electrical and manufacturing engineers to draft work instructions for high-quality production.
• Support continuous improvement in design processes, manufacturability, and quality.
• Assist with supplier engagement, material selection, and production troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with MIL‑STD, IP ratings, and environmental qualification requirements.
