Job summary

The City of Fairhope is seeking an Equipment Operator I to assist in road and ROW construction and maintenance, with duties across horticulture, sanitation, and parks. You will receive daily tasks from a supervisor and operate a range of light to medium equipment.

Minimum qualifications include a HS diploma or GED, 1 year of equipment operation experience, and a Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months. The role requires overtime and occasional travel within the city.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience as Equipment Operator or equivalent.
• Current Class B CDL or obtain within 6 months of employment; must be insurable.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends or emergencies as needed.
• Ability to travel throughout City to perform job functions.
• Ability to pass pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to assist in road and ROW construction and maintenance, horticulture, sanitation, and parks and recreation tasks.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment; conduct safety inspections.
• Perform manual labor tasks and support department operations; assist with storm cleanup and events as needed.
