Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Houston is seeking a dependable refuse collection team member to support loading, sorting, and transporting waste and recyclables on assigned routes.

You will assist the driver, follow safety rules, operate basic truck equipment, and help keep the cab and surroundings clean. This role requires physical fitness to lift up to 65 pounds, willingness to work outdoors in varying weather, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and teammates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED desired.
• 1–3 months related experience desired.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Must meet safety-sensitive criteria per company standards.

Responsibilities

• Collect solid waste/recyclables from customer premises or curbside.
• Load waste into the truck.
• Sort recyclables and place in correct compartments.
• Assist driver with safe vehicle operation and backing.
• Operate truck equipment to compact trash/materials.
• Audit vehicle safety gear and readiness before departure.
• Report problems to the driver immediately.
• Identify prohibited items and remove them from carts.
• Follow safety procedures and comply with regulations.
• Maintain route quality and improve routing efficiency.
• Wear required PPE at all times.
