Route Driver, Hours Vary, Full Time or Part Time, Permanent, 2026-2027
This position places drivers who have passed training into a permanent position with an assigned route for the North Clackamas School District for the 2026-2027 school year.

Position Summary
Safely operate school buses in all weather conditions, transporting students and authorized persons on regular routes, field, cocurricular, and special or extra activity trips. Interact professionally with students, parents, the public, and school authorities. Maintain reports and observe regulations governing duties.
Compensation
Initial wage placement according to NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Retirement Plan Contributions
North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). The district contributes the employer portion; employees contribute mandatory 6% of pay via payroll deduction. Employees qualified after six full calendar months in a qualifying position or part‑time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year are eligible.
Schedule and Work Calendar
Schedule: TBD, depending on department needs, split shifts.
Work Calendar: 185 days.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years of school bus transportation experience may substitute for lack of a high school education.
- Knowledge of laws, codes, rules, policies, and regulations relating to pupil transportation, including transporting students with special needs.
- Strong customer service history and ability to establish effective relations with patrons and staff.
- Effective oral and written communication, analytical ability, and knowledge of office technology and software.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to drive all routes in a variety of bus styles.
- Knowledge of the area within the North Clackamas School District.
- Ability to work closely with Dispatch for extra runs, routes, or assignments.
- Ability to follow a map and/or directions.
- Must possess a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
- Must maintain a State School Bus Driver’s Certificate and appropriate licensing endorsement, including attending required eight hours of annual training.
- Position subject to random drug testing under Department of Transportation guidelines and District anti‑drug and alcohol prevention programs.
- First aid certification and willingness and ability to apply emergency first aid; may be required to operate a defibrillator.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior school bus driver experience.
- Bilingual and bicultural skills.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive school bus on scheduled routes and trips in support of District‑approved activities.
- Communicate with parents to provide or exchange information on students, maintaining FERPA confidentiality.
- Operate all school bus equipment and accessories, including adaptive equipment for special needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of regulations and skills required for transporting students with special needs.
- Attend trainings regarding special needs transportation, as required.
- Ensure lifts, seat belts, securement straps, and attachments of wheelchairs and other safety equipment are properly maintained and used.
- Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, including cleaning the bus interior and exterior.
- Maintain control of student passengers in line with safety and behavior policies.
- Report unsafe actions or conditions.
- Complete required training programs and courses established by state and the transportation department.
- Complete legible and accurate forms, records, timesheets, and other documentation required by state or District policies.
- Operate hand and foot controls on school bus as required by state specifications.
- If an emergency arises, render first aid, report accidents, and safeguard other vehicles.
- Operate school bus in accordance with state laws and District policies.
- Perform required operational and safety inspections of the school bus and related equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
