Job summary

The Salvation Army ARC Bakersfield is seeking a Production Assistant 1 (Class C Driver) in Bakersfield, CA. The role is full-time and non-exempt, reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, with a pay rate of 20.60 per hour.

Responsibilities include following routing directions, ensuring on-time route completion, safe loading/unloading, PPE compliant handling of donations, training the truck helper, and strict adherence to DOT rules. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Clean Driving Record.
• Strong time management and customer service skills.
• Ability to operate electronic equipment used for daily route information.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Follow daily routing directions and stay on route as directed by Transportation Supervisor.
• Complete routes within the approved work schedule; ensure 100% completion daily unless approved.
• Safely load and unload the assigned truck and assist with others as needed.
• Handle donated material with proper precautions and PPE; ensure damage-free delivery.
• Train, instruct, and supervise truck helper in preparation and conduct.
• Maintain Bag & Tag procedures per Supervisor guidance.
• Perform pre- and post-trip checks and report any issues to supervisor.
• Provide courteous customer service to donors and report concerns to dispatch.
• Report accidents involving truck or injuries to supervisor.
• Abide by DOT regulations and state/local laws; attend driver safety meetings.
• Report safety infractions to Transportation Supervisor.
• Observe meal/rest breaks as required; perform other duties as assigned.
