Job summary

Wilderness at the Smokies in Sevierville, TN is seeking a Rope Course Attendant to work on the ropes course and ground level to monitor guest safety and assist guests with questions.

You will harness guests, check rules, and perform safety checks, with training provided by on-site staff. This role emphasizes clear communication, calmness in emergencies, and reliability.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Weight may not exceed 300 lbs.
• Height may not exceed 6' 8" and must be at least 48" tall.
• Must be able to reach the overhead tracking system with at least one hand.
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to remain calm in an emergency is required.
• Ability to act independently with little supervision.

Responsibilities

• Daily inspection of safety equipment and the course itself.
• Harnessing and completing pre-flight safety checks of each participant at the attraction.
• Explaining rules, checking requirements (clothing, height, and weight) and answering guest questions.
• Walking all obstacles and monitoring participant activity and behaviors on the course.
• Remember takedown commands and be ready to take action in emergencies (may lower guest via belay).
• Wear a whistle at all times and carry a radio on ground level.
• Complete practice takedowns monthly and maintain Operator Certification with annual recertification.
• General cleaning of the arcade after close and during slow times.
• All other duties assigned by manager.

SUMMARY: Works both on the Ropes Course (with heights up to 32') and at ground level to monitor guest behavior, insure safety, and assist guests with any questions, concerns, or difficulties with the attraction. Will be required to harness guests of all ages and attach them to the ropes course. Must be able to cross all obstacles of the ropes course and complete rescues as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

• Daily inspection of all safety equipment and the course itself.
• Harnessing and completing pre-flight safety checks of each participant at the attraction.
• Explaining rules, checking requirements (clothing, height, and weight) and answering guest questions for every participant.
• Walking all obstacles and monitoring participant activity and behaviors while on the course.
• Must remember takedown commands and procedures and be ready to take action in an emergency at any moment (may have to lower a guest from the course to ground level using a belay system).
• Must wear a whistle at all times while working the attraction and have access to a radio if on ground level.
• Completion of practice takedowns monthly.
• Must maintain an Operator Certification through RCI and complete the Re-Certification process yearly. (Will be trained by an RCI certified Operator Trainer onsite at Wilderness.)
• General cleaning of the arcade after close and during slow times. (Vacuuming, sweeping, trash pick-ups, wiping down games etc.)
• All other duties assigned by manager
